What is Lupus?

What is Lupus?

Lupus is chronic (long-term) disease that can cause inflammation and pain in any part of your body. It is an autoimmune disease, which mean that you immune system - the body system that usually fights infections - attacks health tissue instead. Lupus mostly affect you skin, joints, or internal organs, like kidneys and heart. Because lupus may effect many parts of the body, it can cause a loot of different symptoms including selling and pain.

About the ELOWEN Studies

The ELOWEN program consists of two identical studies: ELOWEN -1 and ELOWEN -2. These studies are clinical research studies (also called clinical trials) looking to evaluate an investigational medication taken by mouth called enpatoran regarding its ability to treat people with lupus that affect their skin, and which may or may not also affect their joints or internal organs.

In these clinical research studies, enpatoran is being compared with placebo. a placebo is a drug that contains no active ingredients.

It is used to help researchers understand whether the effects seen in the studies are because of enpatoran or placebo.

The purpose of the studies is to learn more about the safety of enpatoran in the people living with lupus, and the ability of this medicine to teat symptoms. Eligible participants would take part in one of the two ELOWEN studies, not both.

You participation in the study would last for approximately 7 months. During the study, participants will take by mouth either enpatoran or placebo twice per day, in addition to their usual medication. After completing the main study, participants will be offered to take part in a separate long-term extension (LTE) study where all participants will receive enpatoran. The LTE study will last approximately 4 years.

What Will Happen in This Study

This questionnaire result does not guarantee you will be qualified for participation; it is just an initial assessment to check if it makes sense for you to contact a study center and confirm your full eligibility. At that time, a study doctor would speak with you about your health history and perform some tests and exams that will support the definite assessment of qualification to participate in the study or not.

If you qualify and choose to take part, you’ll join the study fro about 7 months. During this time, you’ll either receive the investigational treatment or a placebo (a dummy treatment), and you health and skin symptoms will be carefully monitored by the study team. You’ll be supported by qualified healthcare professionals at every steps, and all study-related care will be provided at no cost.
